It's very sad indeed in this week of crushing news to read of the demise of Fr Trevor Jones' blog at St Peter's London Docks - one of the very first of the Anglo-Catholic blogs, always informative and prayerful and never taking the easy or conventional option in the debates raging around us. Yet I do agree with him that there is something faintly disasteful about living out one's future personal tragedies and spiritual struggles online and in the full glare of publicity.
But for the time being at least, I'm not going to follow his example; someone has to turn the lights out when everyone else has left the building.
I read the news with great sadness too Father but it is countered with great joy that you are not giving up. I for one would not want to be left in the dark.
ReplyDeleteThe light has already gone out, Father! It's more a case of making an 'ordinarily' dignified exit!
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed, when -sooner or later - we do leave we should do so with style!
ReplyDeleteIt was very sad to see that Fr. Jones has decided not to continue his blog. I've enjoyed it. Whilst I agree that not making such a transition in the blogosphere is particularly tasteful, I think it is perhaps a greater tragedy that he will not stay online. Many people would take heart from his experience, but furthermore, I think he need not speak overly much about what will be going on in relation to the CofE. Parish life is parish life and he could continue to give a lovely witness to all about how a parish lives in the midst of difficulties. What is it doing in regards to devotions and worship. No need to be overly specific about parish politics. As a parish priest myself, I could care less about politics in another parish for I have plenty of them on my own. Tis a shame, but I hope that you will not fall to the temptation of silence.
ReplyDeleteYes sad about Fr Trevor Jones' blog coming to an end. Please keep your blog going. You and Fr Mark Zorab are probably the only clerical voices Anglican Orthodoxy broadcasting across the Welsh blogsphere. We also need you to provide the voice of reason to counteract all that scurrilous (but accurate!) material that we pump out through the CinW sewer pipe known as the Llandaffchester Chronicles. Which reminds me have you heard the one about the barmaid and Bishop *..*..*..*..*..*..*.. * Drat! Interference from CinW Information Technology High Command!! Will have to broadcast via the usual Chronicles secure channel.
