"This, then is our desert:
to live facing despair,
but not to consent.
To trample it down under hope in the Cross.
To wage war against despair unceasingly.
That war is our wilderness.
If we wage it courageously,
we will find Christ at our side.
If we cannot face it,
we will never find him."

American elections
No comments on the politics - it's not my country, even if we are friends and allies and share a common language (sort of) and many of our cultural values, which tends to mean the American socio-political 'weather' (for good or ill) has a habit of reaching us sooner rather than later - just heartfelt prayers for the people of the United States as they go to the polls today....
ALMIGHTY God, who hast given us this good land for our heritage; We humbly beseech thee that we mayalways prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favour and glad to do thy will. Bless our land with honourable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogancy, and fromevery evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into oneunited people the multitudes brought hither out of manykindreds and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdomthose to whom in thy Name we entrust the authority ofgovernment, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to thy law, we may show forththy praise among the nations of the earth. In the time ofprosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the dayof trouble, suffer not our trust in thee to fail; all which weask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
